About CAF Community Weekend

WHY PARTICIPATE

• Insurance doesn’t cover most adaptive sports equipment and people with disabilities are 3x more likely to live in poverty and 5x more likely to suffer emotional health disorders

• 50% of CAF athlete households earn a yearly income under $50,000 a year, making it nearly impossible to purchase specialized equipment and sports prosthetics that can range in cost from $1,500 - $15,000

• Over the last two years, CAF experienced a 9% increase in grant applications each year and an average 20% increase on the cost of our most frequently requested pieces of equipment, making it even more difficult to support athlete requests without additional funds

• Funds also support sports clinics, providing athletes with opportunities to try new sports and discover passions that lead to healthy, productive lives

Mission + History

It is the mission of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) to provide opportunities and support to people with physical disabilities so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. The Challenged Athletes Foundation believes that involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence, and enhances quality of life
