General Event Information
What is the San Diego Triathlon Challenge (SDTC)?
For over three decades, SDTC has been a critical fundraiser for our organization and is known for being a race experience unlike any other, celebrating and honoring inclusivity and equality in sport. On October 26, 2025, athletes of all abilities will participate in:

And, in a moment not to be missed, SDTC will welcome youth athletes with physical disabilities to participate in the Jami Marseilles CAF Kid’s Run + Roll presented by Philadelphia Insurance Companies.
Where does the money raised go?
All proceeds benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation, helping to provide grants, training, and support to athletes with disabilities worldwide.

Who can participate?
Anyone can participate! The event welcomes athletes of all abilities. Participants can compete individually or as part of a team.
What are the parking options?
There are multiple parking options available, including street parking and nearby parking garages. Arriving early is recommended to secure a spot.
What happens if there is bad weather?
The event will proceed rain or shine. In the case of severe weather conditions, updates will be provided through email and social media channels.
Are dogs allowed at the event?
Dogs are not permitted at San Diego Parks during event hours. Bringing a dog may result in fines for both you and CAF. While we love your pups, we kindly ask that you leave them at home.

What are the distances for San Diego Triathlon Challenge (SDTC)?

How many sessions are include in Tour de Cove (TDC)?
There are three 90-minute sessions. You can participate as an individual and ride the entire 4.5 hours or form a relay of 2 or 3 and split up the sessions.
Is there a relay option for SDTC and TDC?
Yes! Participants can form relay teams where one person completes each segment of SDTC or session of TDC. This is a great option for those who want to participate but prefer not to compete in the entire event.
What if I need adaptive equipment or assistance?

How does the Fundraising Team work?
Take to the next level and join the Team Challenge: Rally your friends, family, and colleagues to take on the challenge together! Fundraising Team Challenge members can participate individually or as part of a relay. Together, you’ll hit milestones, unlock awesome perks, and go head-to-head with other Fundraising Team Challenge teams for top fundraising honors, bragging rights, and extra incentives! The competition is on, are you ready to take it to the next level?
Fundraising Team Challenge Teams must have at least 2 members.
Fundraising minimum: $1500 average per person!
What is Tour de Cove and how can I participate?
Tour de Cove is a 4.5-hour cycle-a-thon where participants either ride solo or form a relay team.

Individual Participation: Ride solo for the full 4.5 hours, tackling all three 90-minute sessions

Relay Team (2 or 3 members): Form a team and share the 3 separate 90-minute sessions. It’s a fun way to participate as a team while taking on a challenging cycling event

How do I register for the event?
Register online now for any event or click the REGISTER button at the top. You will be asked to choose your event and participation type.
What if I want to participate but can’t do the full SDTC or TDC alone?
No problem! The relay team option (either 2 or 3 members) is a great way to participate without taking on the entire event yourself. You can divide the segments of the triathlon or the cycling sessions with your teammates.
What is the age limit for participating?

Minimum age to participate in the swim and run is 12 years old.
-
The bike course is only for athletes 16 and older due to open course.
-
Athletes 15 and under must have a parent or handler with them at all times. A handler is optional for athletes 16 and older.
Athletes with disabilities:
-
Buddies are encouraged for athletes using a racing chair or handcycle in the 8-mile run.
-
Those 10-12 years old can do a short swim option (½ mile) with a required handler.

Athletes 12-15 must have an escort on the run course. Bicycle escorts must stay with their athlete and respect other participants.
What do I get for participating?

Raise $1,500 average per team member: Become part of our Fundraising Team Challenge and unlock additional team perks.

Event Rules & Guidelines
Who is allowed in the transition area?
Only event participants are allowed in the transition area at all times.
Are wetsuits allowed in the swim?
Wetsuits are allowed, as water temperatures can range from 58–65 degrees Fahrenheit. Fins, paddles, or artificial propulsion devices are prohibited, except for athletes with disabilities.
Do participants need to follow specific start times for the swim?
Yes, participants must start in their designated wave, identified by your swim cap color.
What are the bike leg rules?

Helmets must be worn and fastened at all times.

Headphones are not allowed.
-
Drafting or pack riding, including riding behind vehicles, is prohibited.

Arrow bars are prohibited.

This is an open course, follow rules of the road.

Pedal-assist e-bikes are permitted, but throttle e-bikes are not allowed.
What are the rules for the transition area regarding the bike?
There are designated mount and dismount zones.
Participants must walk or run their bike through the exit before mounting and must dismount before entering the transition area when returning.
What is the course time limit?
The total course time limit is seven hours, with the course closing at 3:00 PM.
What on-course support is available?
Bike and run aid stations will be stocked with water and hydration products. There are three aid stations on the bike course and three aid stations on the run course. There will be no salt tablets on the bike or run course, so if you supplement with salt, bring your own. Same goes for aspirin.

How do I register for the event?
Register online now or click on the REGISTER button at the top.
How do I track my fundraising progress?
Once you sign up, you'll be provided with a personal fundraising page where you can track how much money you've raised. You can share this link with friends, family, and social media to help meet your fundraising goals.
Is there a fundraising minimum?
Yes, SDTC is a fundraising event. Participants in SDTC and TDC are required to meet a $500 fundraising minimum. Fundraising Teams are required to meet a minimum of $1500 average per team member.
What happens if I don’t meet my fundraising goal?
Participants are encouraged to meet their goal by October 1, 2025. CAF provides fundraising tools and support to help participants succeed. If you are unable to meet the goal, you may be asked to donate the remaining balance or adjust your participation level.
Spectators and Volunteers
Can spectators attend the event?
Absolutely! Friends, family, and supporters are encouraged to cheer on the participants. The event is designed to be a community celebration of athletic achievement.
How can I volunteer?
Volunteers are essential to the success of SDTC. Opportunities include athlete support, check-in, course setup, and water stations. View our Volunteer page to sign up.
Fundraiser Portal
What is the Fundraiser Portal?
The Fundraiser Portal has many tools to motivate you to take more action, raise more money online, and spread the word for the organization's cause. You can invite others to support your fundraising efforts, track your fundraising progress, update account information, and more.
How do I log in to my Fundraiser Portal?
On your personal page or Home page of the event, there is a LOGIN button at the top right. Click on the button and you will be directed to enter your email and password.
How do I reset my password?
Proceed to login to your Fundraiser Portal. As you proceed to Login, you will see “Forgot Password” as an option. You will be asked to enter your email address. The system will send you an email to reset your password.
How do I access and update Your Page?
The Your Page tab is how you can access your personal fundraising page. You can easily make updates to your fundraising page such as updating your profile image, adding content to Your Story, and updating settings for your personal fundraising page.
Create Facebook Fundraiser
Take your fundraising further by raising money through your social network. By creating a Facebook Fundraiser through your fundraising page, you can share your page on Facebook to your friends and family. Donor's don't have to leave Facebook to donate to your page, all donations received will process and be displayed on both pages.
In your Fundraiser Portal, click on Create a Facebook Fundraiser in Your Fundraising menu. You will be asked to connect to your Facebook account and to allow permission to connect to Facebook. Once you have completed the steps, you can view your Facebook Fundraiser in Facebook.
Mobile App
What is the mobile app and how do I download it?
Download the DonorDrive Charity Fundraising app to update your fundraising story, download your personal QR code, and fundraise for CAF – all on the go!

You tab allows you to access and manage your personal fundraising information, such as:

TEAM tab (bottom)
The Team tab allows you to access your team fundraising page if you are part of a team.
All Team Members will be able to use the Team tab to:

See your team roster, including your teammates' fundraising progress.

FUNDRAISE tab (bottom heart symbol)
The Fundraise tab helps you complete key actions that can boost your personal and team fundraising.
You can toggle between the "You" and "Your Team" tabs at the top of the screen to choose actions for your fundraising, such as:

Create a Facebook Fundraiser

Display your QR Code to allow others to directly access your fundraising pages.

Share your page with friends and family for donations.

FEED tab (bottom right)
The Feed tab provides you with updates about your personal and team fundraising progress, as well as important messages from the organization you are supporting.
Check / Cash Donations
Donors can donate via check and cash too! Download and print our offline donation form to include with your donations.
For donations without our offline donation form, please make sure to include the Fundraiser Name & Event in the memo line of the check or with the cash in order to credit your fundraising page.

Matching Gifts
What are matching gifts?
Many companies match charitable donations made by their employees. This is a great way to double - or even triple - your gift to Challenged Athletes Foundation!
How can I get a matching gift?
You will have to contact your Human Resources department directly to see if your company matches charitable gifts. If your company matches gifts, please follow instructions your employer provides.
